The macro-sector of the civil construction in the economy of Mato Grosso do Sul and its CO2 emission: a study supported in the matrix input-product

The use of indicators to evaluate a certain phenomenon has been employed in the most diverse areas of knowledgement. Most recently, indicators have been used in order to overcome the challenge when discussing the environmental issue, and they seek the harmony between economic growth and the environment preservation. In this way, the indicators can be the most appropriate tools to improve the communication between political decision makers and the society in the discussion of complex issues on which there is a need for consensus. The objectives of this study were to analyze the impacts on the activity of the state’s civil construction macro-sector and to estimate the Gross Domestic Product – GDP of the civil construction macro-sector in the economy and its of CO2 emission in the atmosphere, using the input-product matrix that allows the joint analysis of several indicators. These indicators serve as parameters to generate employs and income, and from that it allows us to assess the level of sustainability of Mato Grosso do Sul State. Secondary data were collected from the input-product matrix of Mato Grosso do Sul State, in 2015. As a general result, it could identify the importance of this macro-sector in the economy, as it generates a GDP of 13.28% for MS State generates about 19.585 (draw a thousand and Five hundred and eighty-five) direct Jobs. With that, it was possible to identify the real importance of this macrosector for the economy of MS State. Similarly, it was also possible to analyze sustainable development and its CO2 emissions in Mato Grosso do Sul State.
