Among the technologies used in environmental studies, the geoprocessing of information stands out, especially the Geographic Information System (GIS), being a fast, current and effective tool in data processing. In this scenario, the objective of this study was to analyze the vulnerability to wind erosion in the hydrographic basin of the Piancó River, through geotechnologies in a GIS environment. In summary, the methodological procedures were: literature review; development of a database in a GIS environment; categorization of the degree of vulnerability into stable, moderately stable, moderately stable/vulnerable, moderately vulnerable and vulnerable; composition and overlapping of thematic maps of vulnerability to wind erosion for the factors of declivity, geology, pedology, soil moisture and land use and occupation; and elaboration of the final map of vulnerability to wind erosion. The results showed that the Piancó watershed ranged from stable (2.2% of the territory) to moderately vulnerable (0.8%), with the moderately stable class (56%) as the most comprehensive in its area, followed by the moderately stable/vulnerable (41%). Thus, it was concluded that regarding the degree of vulnerability to wind erosion, the study area showed stability in 58.2% of the territory. Above all, it is suggested the adoption of mitigating measures in order to avoid possible negative environmental impacts, as well as the introduction of more effective environmental public policies.
