The growing concern with the environment has been awakening humanity to the development of more sustainable products and techniques. Energy from biomass proves to be a promising alternative in replacing fossil energies to achieve such promising 'sustainable development'. In this context, microalgae are an excellent alternative because they have environmental applications in the use of wastewater, carbon dioxide capture and oxygen production and generate various products for industry, including biofuels. However, it is important to know what school learning conveys knowledge about this topic within technical schools. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge of IFRN-Apodi Biofuels Technician students on the definition, use, sustainability of microalgae cultivation and application in the biofuels sector. For this, questionnaires with semi-structured questions were applied to 86 students. From the data analysis, it was found that 44% of the students heard about microalgae, but had superficial knowledge on the subject. It was concluded that it would be important that this topic be addressed in the initial subjects as well as the culture of other energetic plant matrices and that students need to broaden their knowledge about the full range of products and benefits that microalgae can generate besides biodiesel.
