Major depressive disorder is a highly prevalent disease in Brazil, for this reason, there are several antidepressants with different mechanisms of action for patient treatment. However, treatment adherence is not entirely satisfactory due to many side effects and because many patients do not achieve symptom remission. The study aims to correlate the improvement in cases of depression with B complex (CB) supplementation. The literature has several studies that support the hypothesis that the use of CB is related to the neuropathology of depression by participating in the production of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, suggesting that the correlation of B vitamin with antidepressants may contribute to depressive symptoms remission. 70 Swiss mice were divided into control (saline), naïve (no application), CB single dose (CB1D), CB double dose (CB2D), CB1D plus fluoxetine (FLU), CB2D plus FLU, and FLU 10 mg/ kg. After the treatment period, behavioral tests were carried out, the open field test showed us a decrease in horizontal locomotor activity in the groups treated with CB1D, CB1D + FLU, CB2D + FLU and FLU in comparison to the naive and control groups. The forced swimming test showed a decrease in the immobilization time of CB1D+FLU groups compared to the control, showing antidepressant action, while the increase of climbing with the administration of CB shows us that B complex has a pathway to inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine. Concluding that CB has antidepressant action when combined with FLU, but more studies are needed to determine more effective doses of treatment.Downloads
