The Amazon Forest is present in nine countries in Latin America, and in Brazil the Amazon biome occupies approximately 49.5% of the Brazilian territory, being the extraction of forest wood a practice responsible for a series of dilution of ecosystem resources offered by forests. As a result of these socio-environmental events, in a qualitative way, the present work verifies, through bibliographical research, how the activity of selective wood extraction in tropical forests, having the Amazon Biome as an object of study, has been taking place in recent years. For this, the view of authors who work mainly with the environmental theme was used. The analysis of the methodological design of the research was done through spreadsheets for the insertion of data, and finally the analysis was carried out in a descriptive way. Thus, it is expected that the findings of this study can instigate the development of public policies for land use planning and maintenance of ecosystem services. It is concluded that a national forest management plan is essential to guarantee the preservation of tropical forests, and that environmental certification is important to promote a sustainable market that does not put at risk the ecosystem services from natural wood resources.
