The present article aims to demonstrate the estimation of the efficiency of a green roof based on the rational empirical method on the roof of the Paula Batista Forum, annex building of the Court of Justice, located in the neighborhood of Santo Antônio in the city of Recife. From the analysis of the panorama of how the cities of the 21st century are, with the increase in temperature in our planet, care with the environment has been a constant. Through the techniques used in civil engineering, new construction techniques are currently being sought in order to compensate for the environmental impacts caused by buildings. Sustainability is increasingly being discussed, especially in civil construction, alerting to the importance of acting positively towards the environment. The green roof, as one of the compensatory techniques for rainwater drainage, results in environmental, economic and social benefits. From the analysis of the empirical method, calculations based on formulas were developed to explain the advantage of the use of the green roof in the building for the effect of sustainability in the civil construction in urban centers, besides verifying its use. The problem arose from the questioning of how the Paula Batista Forum could save current expenses in a sustainable way? The solution found was the construction of a green roof to minimize maintenance costs by capturing rainwater for its reuse. Given the results obtained, the construction of an extensive green roof, besides adding value and status to the building, offers new environmental and urban functions. Thus, encouraging other public buildings to use this implementation for better economy of expenses and quality of life for the public servants.
