Credit risk is present in all business transactions governed by the accrual principle. It is indispensable for lenders to make an analysis of the ability of customers to pay. To assess credit risk, lenders may use various methodologies, such as those highlighted in this research, namely: judgmental analysis, discriminant analysis (ADML) and structural analysis. With this focus, the objective of this research is to evaluate, by conducting a case study, whether the credit risk classification proposed by the Sanvicente and Minardi (S&M) discriminant insolvency forecast methodology and the KMV structural methodology are in accordance with the Judgmental model, which is based on credit risk analysis considering qualitative and quantitative information, as well as the 'common sense' factor in financing decisions. The research contributes by analyzing the level of adherence of these credit risk rating methodologies to the largest company in the education sector listed in [B] 3 Brazil, Bolsa, Balcão, Kroton Educacional S.A., given their relevance within this sector. The results did not attest statistically significant adherence between the S&M and KMV methodologies with the judgmental methodology, being partly explained by aspects such as the non-inclusion of the 'common sense' factor in the credit decision, the use of historical accounting information (S&M). and the use of historical information on the price and return of common shares.
