The analysis of banks' performance has been the subject of empirical research that seeks to verify the influence that factors resulting from managerial decisions have on asset structure, sector of operation, banking operating efficiency and macroeconomic and regulatory aspects exert on the profitability of these banks. companies. In order to investigate the contribution of the representative indicators of banking strategies and macroeconomic aspects to the profitability of publicly traded banks, this empirical-analytical, descriptive and quantitative approach research proposes to identify, within a set of representative proxies. economic-financial and macroeconomic indicators, the main determining factors for the profitability of the four largest publicly traded banks in Brazil, Bolsa, Balcão. The analysis period covers the years 2007 to 2017. Statistical inferences were constructed based on correlation analysis and multiple linear regression tests for each sample bank. The results showed that Bank Profitability, measured based on Return on Equity (ROE), is influenced by aspects related to Credit Risk (RIS), Bank Spread (SPR), Credit Operations (CRE), Credit Level. Deposits (DEP), Immobilization Degree (IMO), Operating Cost (CUS), Voluntary Fitting (ENC), Economic Activity (GDP) and Basic Interest Rate (SEL). General Indebtedness (NDT) was also another determinant and statistically significant aspect for banks' profitability, thus giving evidence of relevance of the capital structure to publicly traded banks operating in Brazil.
