Environmental perception of elementary school students on the use and quality of water for human consumption at school

The present work aimed to analyze the environmental perception of elementary school students about water and its conscious consumption, as well as to evaluate the quality of school water. The research was developed with 20 students of the 6th year of elementary school, afternoon shift, during the first semester of 2020, in a municipal school, in Tenente Ananias, RN. For that, we used the application of a questionnaire containing ten open and closed questions with the students and the microbiological analysis of the water consumed at school. After analyzing the collected data, it was found that students had perceptions about the environmental problems of the city they reside in, as well as being able to point out strategies to minimize environmental impacts, related to water resources, such as: “do not delay long in the bath, or keep the tap turned off. ” Regarding the water analysis, it was found that all samples had total coliforms and E. coli, being unsuitable for human consumption. We conclude that awareness and awareness work should be continuous at school. As a suggestion, it is necessary that interventionist works be adopted, from the identification of perception, awareness and monitoring of water quality in all stages of academic training.
