The aim of this research was to analyze fatigue from its multidimensional stressful aspects that affect professionals in intensive care environments. To this end, the study was conducted in two stages. The first, an integrative review where a theoretical essay on the conception of fatigue was developed from the 9 selected studies; the second was a bibliometric study of 28 international publications using the VOSviewer software. The second was a bibliometric study of 28 international publications, using the VOSviewer software. As a discussion, the multidimensionality of fatigue is revealed by the excessive weekly workload, frustration with the work and its conditions, double shifts, low pay, and low professional performance. It is also observed that fatigue is one of the predisposing factors to burnout syndrome, stress and psychological distress of professionals and that female intensivists are the most affected. The conclusion is that intensivists experience a routine that leads to physical and psychological problems, musculoskeletal complaints, minor psychic disorders, burnout syndrome and a perception of low professional performance.
