The macrofauna comprises organisms with a size between 2 and 10 mm, being represented by more than 20 taxonomic groups. They are highly sensitive to environmental changes. The activities of these organisms in the soil are fundamental for the sustainability of ecosystems, whether natural or managed. However, studying different environments allows us to perceive the anthropic actions carried out in the natural environment. The study aimed to carry out a survey of the edaphic macrofauna in two environmental fragments in the Environmental Protection Area of Inhamum, Caxias-MA. Two experimental areas were chosen: Mata de Galeria being demarcated as Area I and Cerrado sensu stricto demarcated as Area II. The study period covered the months of September 2017 to April 2018, totaling eight collections in the studied area. To capture edaphic macrofauna, Provid traps were distributed. 19,993 individuals were counted. The most abundant orders of macrofauna were Hymenoptera, Coleoptera and Diptera for the two study areas. The diversity of edaphic macrofauna individuals varied with the temporal distribution of rainfall. Area I had the highest diversity index (H'=1.44) and Area II had the lowest index (H'=1.05). The richest macrofauna is in Area II. The results were obtained in the areas sampled by the estimators (Chao1, Chao2, Jackknife1 and Jackknife2) correlated with the accumulation curves.
