In view of the theme of Water Resources Policy Instruments, this work integrates the legal aspects related to the areas of public supply sources and the need to seek alternatives to conserve them. The protocol proved to be an efficient tool when applied to the Ernesto river, a source of public supply in the municipality of Pitanga-Pr. According to the results obtained, the tool made it possible to find conservationist measures to be adopted in 3 of the 4 points analyzed, which were classified as altered and impacted, mainly due to the lack of Permanent Preservation Areas, irregular use of the soil and the presence of solid residues and liquids in water in some of the observed locations.
