The present work had the objective of evaluating the potential of flies as bioindicators of potentially toxic metals - MPT in anthropized environments (destined as dumps) in the municipalities of Imperatriz-MA and Senador La Rocque-MA both located in the West of Maranhão. The soils of the investigated area were also evaluated in order to make a correlation between the levels of potentially toxic metals in soils and flies since, the flies have their larval stage in the soil. The identification of flies, extractions and soil analysis were carried out in the laboratory for later determination of the metals studied by FAAS flame atomic absorption spectrometry. From the results it was observed that the concentrations of potentially toxic metals in the soils were higher in the municipality of Imperatriz. The variation in the concentrations of potentially toxic metals among the species of flies indicates that the Calliphoridae family absorbs the studied potentially toxic metals from the soil that accumulate on the soil surface. In addition, some species proved to be better indicators of MTP than others.
