This study aims to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of energy use of biogas generated from an wastewater treatment plant for the municipality of Vitória da Conquista-Bahia. The case study was carried out from the comparison between two scenarios: (1) Adoption of a Treatment System with Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) and (2) Adoption of an Activated Sludge (AS) system. The logistic population projection was estimated using the method called logistic growth for a period of 20 years. Based on population projection for the municipality of Vitória da Conquista and the average and maximum flow values for the final year of the project, 2041, it was possible to estimate the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). Then it was possible to dimension the UASB and AS reactor system needed to serve the Municipality and thus estimate the gas production at the output of both systems, as well as the power and electricity generated from biogas. From the methane flow generated in the UASB reactor of 1965.93 m³/day, the power of 128.54 kW and its electrical conversion of 900.8 kWh/year were obtained, while the methane flow generated from AS was 5875 m³/day, obtaining a power of 49.19 kW and its electrical conversion of 345 kWh/year. According to the analysis of the economic feasibility of the systems carried out through cash flow, both systems are economically feasible. From an energy point of view, the UASB reactor is more attractive compared to the AS, but the initial investment is higher. However, regarding the quality parameters of the treated effluent, the AS is more adequate, since the load of TSS released after treatment is smaller, compared to that of the UASB reactor.
