In the production of coffee seedlings, some producers have been covering the substrate with lineage and canvas bags, either alone or together. However, there is no scientific basis for the application of the technique. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the production of coffee seedlings in different forms of substrate cover. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, with four treatments and five replications. The evaluated treatments were: without cover (control); lineage bag cover; cover with canvas and; cover with lineage bag and canvas. Emergence speed index (ESI), mean number of days for emergence, emergence, plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area and total dry seedling weight were evaluated. The percentage of emergence was higher in the treatments with lineage bag and canvas and canvas cover. The emergence speed index was higher in the treatment with lineage bag and canvas, followed by the treatment with canvas cover. The leaf area, plant height and number of leaves were higher in the treatment with lineage bag and canvas. For the neck diameter, the highest values were obtained in the lineage bag and canvas and canvas cover treatments. The treatments that presented the highest total weight were covered with lineage bag and canvas and only covered with canvas. For all variables, treatment without coverage (control) showed lower values.
