Mapping areas favorable to potential implementation Wildlife Corridors (WCs) represents an essential tool for the management of territories and natural resources aimed at maintaining biodiversity and mitigating the effects of habitat fragmentation on biodiversity, even in regions where Conservation Units (UCs) are present. In the Fluminense Mountain Region, population and urban growth associated with the perimetropolitan expansion of Rio de Janeiro (RMRJ) are chronic, especially when added to a scenario of increased demand for real estate in mountain cities since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, intensifying loss of vegetation cover and habitat fragmentation. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate two potential routes for the implementation of a wildlife corridor aiming at the interconnection between two Protected areas, Araras Biosphere Reserve in Petrópolis (RBA) - RJ and the Municipal Parke of Alberto Torres (PMAT), in Areal -RJ. For this purpose, we use Supervised Classification of Satellite Image in Geographic Information System (GIS) in order to identify the more suitable alternative path for the implantation of an wildlife corridor according to the relative contribution, in area (ha), of the predominant land use classes - pasture, forest, buildings and water bodies patches and the length of the corridor. Route 1 (R1) was obtained with a length of approximately 43 km and a total area of about 593.24 ha and the other with a length of approximately 38 km (Route 2, R2) and a total area of 533.92 ha. Among the two mapped wildlife corridors ptches (R1 and R2), R1 presented more favorable data and was indicated as the most favorable way for the implementation of an WC in the study area.
