One of the great challenges for society is the ability to manage its solid waste according to the quantity produced and the negative environmental impacts. The objective of the research is to establish basic premises for the management, disposal and reduction of the use of plastic materials used in the building of the Forum of the District of Petrolina. The scope is sustainability in the management of solid plastic waste, evaluating the technical, economic and socio-environmental aspects of the existing technological routes for products originating from polymers and their classifications, with the mapping of these routes from the acquisition of products to the final disposal of waste, analyzing from the perspective of sustainability and in line with Circular Economy concepts. The methodology consists of a quali-quantitative approach, of an applied nature through the in loco classification of the research data, using gravimetric techniques and interviews with agents who deal with the theme of recycling. The most accessible technological route in the management of plastic waste is the sanitary landfill managed by the Petrolina Waste Treatment Center (CTR), which receives two thirds of all the plastic generated in the building, material that could generate financial resources for the families participating in the recycling cooperative. Need to expand logistical and organizational support, aiming at selective collection, in addition to an environmental education campaign among employees. Action plan for implementing key actions using the 5W2H management tool.
