The importance of physiotherapy in the follow-up of bariatric patients: an integrative review

Obesity is a disease that causes imbalance in the functioning of the human body, and one of the methods of intervention is bariatric surgery and during this process, physiotherapy is essential to strengthen the respiratory system, among other benefits to the bariatric patient. In this sense, the objective of this work is to discuss the physiotherapeutic intervention in cases of pre and post bariatric surgery patients. In this regard, this is research that analyses the results of 10 articles selected through the integrative literature review methodology, with the application of the qualitative research method, which resulted in 33 articles, where 23 were excluded based on pre-defined criteria. -determined. 10 articles were analysed demonstrating that the physiotherapeutic intervention is essential for respiratory muscle training because it directly helps in satisfactory results in the patients' condition. Thus, considering the effect of physiotherapeutic intervention with a focus on muscle training, directly impacting the lung function of bariatric patients is high. Thus, the presence of this professional in the follow-up of this type of surgical intervention is essential.
