Santa Barbara Dam located at Pelotas/RS has four main tributaries which receives sanitary and industrial waste. The physico-chemical characterization of these waters is important in order that the applied treatment be appropriate and efficient since they are public water supply and which have manganese excess in their historical. The objectives of this study were to characterize the main tributaries of Santa Barbara Dam through physical-chemical analysis (pH, chlorides, oxygen consumed, ammoniacal nitrogen, total phosphorus, turbidity, biochemical oxygen demand and total manganese) and evaluate the correlation between these parameters and the manganese. For that physical-chemical data were collect in the records of Autonomous Service of Pelotas Sanitation (SANEP) for the period 2010-2015. The parameters pH, chlorides, turbidity and oxygen consumed were in accordance with the standards established by CONAMA Resolution No. 357/2005; total phosphorus, ammoniacal nitrogen, BDO and total manganese showed results above the standards established by law. The study of the relations between physical-chemical parameters with manganese showed positive and significant correlations between Mn-Ptotal, in the Epaminondas; Mn-Oconsumed in the Epaminondas and Sanga da Barbuda and Mn-Turbidity in the Sanga da Barbuda, Sítio Floresta and Passo do Cunha.
