Beliefs and perceptions about philodryas olferssi (lichtenstein, 1823), in Ribeira do Amparo, sertão da Bahia

There are several companies that have built myths involving serpents as harmful beings. This study aimed to understand how the ethnoknowledge residents of Finance Boiling municipality of Ribeira do Amparo / BA with P. olferssi snake has contributed to the maintenance of beliefs, legends and myths in relation to the species, and the influence of these in its conservation. Data were collected from November 2014 to June 2015, through semi-structured interviews and informal conversations held with 50 residents, including 31 women and 19 men. According to residents interviewed, the green snake when it is persecuted and not the slaughter occurs, is waiting of his attacker until you can poke it, because they are vindictive. For this reason and by the realization that all snakes are dangerous to humans and domestic animals, the slaughter of the species occurs indiscriminately by community residents. In this sense, it is fundamental to the development of environmental education, seeking to inform about the biology of snakes in general, describing their ecological importance, mainly because it is an animal that assist in biological control of other species and also because they are sources foods for other animals.
