Coconut shell and cane bagasse ash as mineral addition in mixtures containing Portaland cement

The use of biomass as an alternative in the generation of energy is a very widespread practice when the aim is to reduce environmental impacts, especially when it is possible to use its waste in other processes. This way, the present work sought to characterize and analyze the potential of the ashes of the Bark Coconut Biomass (CCC) and of sugarcane bagasse ash (CBCA) based on the reduction of the environmental impact in the region. From the investigation of the physical-chemical characteristics of these components, the selection of the residue was sought for greater suitability for use as a mineral admixture in cement based mixtures. Chemical analyzes of thermogravimetry (TG) and x-ray diffraction (DRX) were performed for a better understanding of the material's behavior, as well as, analyzes of compressive strength with lime at seven days and the IAP (Pozzolanic Activity Index) with cement at twenty-eight days. With the results obtained, it can be understood that the samples have pozzolanic potential, since they present the required physical and chemical characteristics the , but reduced values of compressive strength were found. However, due to their high silica content and chemical behavior, the materials can be used as a mineral admixture. Besides that, the ash from sugar cane and coconut shell can be an alternative, partially replacing the fine aggregate in the composition of the mortar for coating, due to its low need for resistance to compression.
