The aim of this study was to identify the sociodemographic characteristics of gas station workers in Ji-Paraná/RO, as well as the main physiological disorders related to work activities and their correlation with genetic damage depending on the degree of exposure of these workers. It has been seen that the compounds of the BTEX group (Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene and Xylene), present in petroleum products, are known as major depressants of human health. The study was carried out with a group of 120 volunteers, consisting of 80 gas station workers and 40 individuals who do not perform the same function, considered as a control group. For the collection of samples of the oral mucosa and cytological analysis, the volunteers were divided into 3 groups, 2 exposed groups and a control group, and one (01) exposed group was composed of 40 workers with habits of consuming alcoholic beverages; and the second group (02) of exposed individuals, with an equal number of workers, who do not have the habit of consuming alcoholic beverages and the control group for 40 people who do not work as a gas station attendant, and are not alcoholic drinkers. Analyzes of the presence of micronuclei and cellular abnormalities such as cariorréxe, binucleation, budding and apoptosis, show that the individuals in the exposed groups have a higher prevalence of genetic damage and cellular abnormalities in relation to the control group, in addition, it was possible to observe that individuals in the aged between 26 and 55 years old presented a higher frequency of damages when compared to those between 18 and 25 years old. It was also observed that the longer the exposure time to fuels, the greater the incidence of genetic damage in the cells of the oral mucosa.
