The landscape on travel inside the Brazil of Johann Emanuel Pohl

Abstract

Brazil in the nineteenth century was the destination of several expeditions called naturalists. Out of interest in search of news for European society, such men entered Brazil and for the exit of valuable records of the period. The study has you found in the period of the sonar in the period of the Tocantins in the period of Johann Emanuel Pohl. From the methodological selection with the keywords and phrases, it was possible to identify the references and the concepts and the expressions about the landscape that would be executed in the later ones. It was found a plural view of the landscape marked by cultural and scientific formation than comparisons and differences with their place of origin. The writings allow to identify parallels with the conceptions of landscape developed by Alexander Von Humboldt, Siegfried Passarge, Richard Hartshorne, Carl Troll and Georges Bertrand. The research explores beyond the literature of travel in the nineteenth century in which, the formation of geographical thought is based. The research also contributes to the growth of the knowledge about landscape, as well, to the study of the historical writings about travel. This research can be of great contribution to the environmental sciences by taking as object of study, the landscape and the regional descriptions.
