The present study aimed to evaluate the water quality of the Piracicaba River, located in the Rio Doce basin, through data collected in the cities of Rio Piracicaba, João Monlevade, and Nova Era between the years 2018 and 2022, using the database provided by the Water Management Institute of Minas Gerais (IGAM). The water quality of the river was classified as moderate according to the Water Quality Index. However, concentrations of Escherichia coli above the recommended limit were identified in all samples collected in the monitored section. Additionally, the RD026 point, located in João Monlevade, was classified as mesotrophic, while the RD025 and RD029 points were classified as oligotrophic. To compare the results obtained with historical data, records covering the period from 2007 to 2017 were used. The results showed that, except for turbidity and solids, the water quality in the evaluated points of the Piracicaba River maintained its characteristics without significant changes in quality. This study provides relevant information on the water quality of the Piracicaba River and reinforces the need for measures to reduce pollution and ensure the preservation of the local aquatic ecosystem
