The composition of bats in Brazilian states has been reported. However, many regions still remain unknown and, in this sense, we present the first list of bats for the state of Tocantins based on a literature review, in order to reduce the knowledge gaps about this diversity. Systematically, the scientific production with chiropters for Tocantins is quite recent, with approximately 16 years. A total of 86 species were documented, belonging to nine families occurring in Brazil. Knowledge gaps are mainly detected in the north, northwest as well as in the west, southwest and northeast regions. Sampling efforts using acoustics as new sampling methods are recommended to further increase animal richness. We suggest that, in the future, conservation scientists, in addition to analyzing species composition and landscape analysis, may also obtain ecotoxicological variables to relate to environmental safety. From these analyzes they will be able to understand the interaction of xenobiotics effects both on these mammals health as well as in the environmental quality.
