The work seeks to elaborate a profile of the municipalities of Minas Gerais related to their Environmental Health Surveillance structure through the presentation and discussion of questionnaire data applied to the municipalities of the State of Minas Gerais (n = 523). There was data treatment and classification related to the population and division between health macro-regions. The results point to the participation of municipal technical references in courses in the last four years (62.91%), difficulties in carrying out actions (63.86%), low percentage of field equipment, low number of professionals working in the area (19.12%) and few municipalities with exclusive vehicles for actions in Environmental Health Surveillance (14.15%). Most of the difficulties in carrying out the actions were identified in small population municipalities. High schooling (45.32%) and higher education (40.15%) predominate as maximum education of municipal teams. A heterogeneous profile was identified among municipalities in different health macro-regionals. It is recommended that managers be more sensitized, more structured (human resources, equipment, inputs and training), discussions, studies and actions of an intersectoral nature in different spheres of government. It is suggested to the state government to promote public policies aimed specifically at environmental health, strengthening intersectoral articulation, professional qualification and support in the acquisition of equipment for use in municipal actions.
