This research aimed to characterize the socio-environmental conditions of the municipality of São Miguel do Guamá in relation to the municipalities of the upper Rio Guamá basin in the Eastern Amazon. The municipalities studied were São Miguel do Guamá, Garrafão do Norte, Capitão Poço, Ourém, Irituia, São Domingos do Capim, Bujarú and Belém, located in the State of Pará. The following socio-environmental indicators were used: HDI-M, coverage by water supply system (%), coverage by sewerage system (%), diarrhea and gastroenteritis morbidity (number of hospitalizations), surface water availability (m³/s). The indexes were obtained through official data available on government platforms, from 1991 to 2010. To analyze the correlation of indexes between municipalities, Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r) was used. Strong correlations were verified between the indicators of water supply system (%), sewerage network (%), surface water availability (m³ / s) with the HDI-M data. Sewerage network (%) showed a strong correlation with morbidity due to diarrhea and gastroenteritis (number of hospitalizations). The correlation between different variables allowed a better understanding of the socio-environmental scenario of the municipality of São Miguel do Guamá in relation to the municipalities of the upper river Guamá, being a research with a pioneering methodological approach for this region of the Eastern Amazon.
