This work sought to characterize the profile of the finishing pig activity of a municipality through indicators, which allow a list of the environmental, socio-economic, and institutional dimensions. 41 pig producing units in the finishing phase (UPT) were evaluated. Through a questionnaire, information was collected about the profile of the finishing pigs in a municipality, proposing sustainability indicators, and establishing a balance between the socio-economic, environmental, and institutional dimensions. The three dimensions were divided into 15 indicators evaluated using 15 criteria. The indicators representing the three dimensions proposed were classified as low, medium, and high potential. In the general profile of the UPTs, pig farmers are, on average, 53 years old, 34% of whom have not completed elementary school. The family workforce characterizes 100% of the UPTs. The quality of life in rural areas was satisfactory. The present study allowed us to propose indicators to trace the profile of the finishing swine of cooperative producers to an agro-industry and, from these, it was possible to establish a balance between the environmental, socioeconomic and institutional dimensions. The family succession, as it is a dynamic and systemic process, is directly related to technological modernization in UPTs. It was noted that the interest in descendants to remain in the UPTs, is a process that intensifies proportionately, technological qualification in particular, related to basic tasks such as cost control, and technical knowledge aimed at improving pig productivity. The present study made it possible to propose indicators to trace the profile of pig farming from cooperative producers to an agro-industry and, from these, it was possible to establish a balance between the environmental, socioeconomic and institutional dimensions. Through the levels of framing of the indicators, it was possible to have a systemic view on the dynamics of pig farming in a municipality in which the pig activity is one of the most important economic bases.
