The expansion of tourism and the search for leisure activities has triggered the construction of new areas, causing changes in the original spatial characteristics. Artificial lakes are very popular for recreational fishing. However, its construction without proper planning can compromise water quality and cause problems to public health, with accumulations of toxic substances in the food chain, and must maintain the quality and preservation of water used for recreational use. Therefore, this work aims to analyze the anthropic interaction with the water quality of Lago das Araucárias in the city of Fraiburgo, state of Santa Catarina, South of Brazil. Water samples were collected from five sampling points on Lake Araucárias, located in the central region of Fraiburgo. The parameters: pH, temperature, conductivity and dissolved oxygen were measured on the spot. The variables of biochemical oxygen demand, total solids, dissolved solids, suspended solids, orthophosphate, total phosphorus, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, hardness and alkalinity were acquired according to the methodology applied in the Standard methods for examining water and sewage and the values withdrawn were compared with CONAMA Resolution nº 357/2005 and Ordinance 2914/2011. The parameters of pH, dissolved oxygen and total phosphorus were those that did not fit the current legislation, the values found being influenced mainly by the presence of organic matter from the release of domestic and industrial effluents. Thus, in order to qualify for class 3 for fresh water, it is the responsibility of the public authorities to invest in minimizing the discharge of domestic effluents to the level of total phosphorus that meets the requirements of current legislation.
