Water resources are essential for the existence and survival of all forms of life on the planet, however society has used these resources inappropriately. Thus, it is necessary to plan the rational use of water. Therefore, it should be considered that the most viable instrument for raising awareness, inside or outside the school space, is Environmental Education. In this sense, the present study aims to present the importance of teacher training as a multiplier agent of knowledge about water laws, using Environmental Education as a tool to raise awareness of society, both in the school environment and in the community, to collaborate with the improvement of water resources management. The methodology used was based on a qualitative approach, based on a bibliographic review, aiming at gathering information about teacher training on water issues. To fill the existing knowledge gaps in the area, it is necessary for teachers to know the Sustainable Development objectives (SDGs) and public policies so that they can act in the context of Environmental Education based on this information and, in this way, better train their students. students for decision-making concerning environmental issues. It is expected that the adoption of these practices can provide changes in attitudes in people and institutions, leading them to actions that favor the rational use and preservation of water.
