The study aimed to evaluate the management of urban solid waste in four municipalities of the Chapadas do Extremo Sul Piauiense Microregion in view of the National Solid Waste Policy regarding the existence of irregular public dumps and to relate the final disposal units with the environmental impacts. The study was conducted with secondary data readily available and field visits in an area corresponding to four dumps in four municipalities in the Chapadas do Extremo Sul Piauiense Microregion, including: Cristalândia do Piauí, Corrente, Parnaguá and Riacho Frio. The municipalities still present the irregular spill as a final disposal unit for waste, going against the National Policy for Urban Solid Waste. The existence of the drains culminates in the propagation and intensification of the environmental degradation situation in the region, reflected by the degree of impact and observed degradative value. It becomes evident the need to create plans and sanitary landfills considered the environmentally appropriate way for depositing waste from human activities.
