The existing water crisis in the Brazilian semi-arid context is considered as a historical challenge. In view of this, the social technologies of coexistence with the semi-arid region have enabled new alternatives in face of the recurrent problems in this area. Given the above, the objective of this work is to understand how the plate cistern has contributed to the permanence of family farmers in the Bom Lugar I Agrarian Reform Settlement as social technology of coexistence with the semi-arid region and what are the possibilities of advances for the implementation of new technologies that ensure life quality and social well-being of family farmers. A semi-structured interview was used as an instrument and the data were grouped and tabulated according to pre-established criteria (Bardin, 1977). The study presents a set of punctual and specific indicatives that promote the understanding about the importance of the plate cistern in the context of the Bom Lugar I agrarian settlement, allowing the construction of reflection and possibilities of advances related to the implementation of new social technologies of coexistence with the semi-arid region.
