Cocoa, Marketing Channels, Costs, Economic ViabilityAbstract
The objectives of this study were to identify the economic viability of cocoa production by family farming in a crop rotation system using black pepper and passion fruit, and to investigate the best marketing channel among the options available in the municipality from Tome-Açu. To know the profitability and which is the best marketing channel and the respective gains to the rural producer, we used the economic viability indicators: Net Present Value (NPV), the Benefit-Cost Index (BCI), the Internal Rate of Return (IRT), the Payback and the Balance Point (BP), all calculated at different discount rates, referring to the credit lines that the municipality's producers have access to. This analysis concluded that the system presents satisfactory economic viability in all marketing channels used by the municipality's producers, but there is a greater financial return if the production is sold to the agricultural cooperative installed in the municipality.
