During gestation several physiological changes occur, generating dysfunctions that lead to discomfort in this period. The Pilates Method was created by Joseph Humbertus Pilates, based on body awareness, offering cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal benefits to pregnant women. The purpose of the study was to investigate the benefits of the pilates method during the gestational period from bibliographical research found in the Lilacs, Bireme, PubMed, Scielo and Google Academic virtual libraries in order to search for Portuguese and English articles available in the period between 2008 and 2017. 40 studies were verified, being selected only 26 and 1 book. It is concluded that the method is highly effective in gestational changes due to the lightness of its movements, not having overload in the joints and complying with its principles, providing physical and emotional well-being in the pregnant woman.
