Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Senescence, the aging process inherent to all human beings, brings with it various changes to the body of each individual, such as arterial stiffening, predisposition to the accumulation of atherosclerotic plaques, and a tendency towards sedentary lifestyles, factors that together increase the risk of cardiovascular events.

Objective: To assess the cardiovascular risk of elderly people who are assisted by Basic Health Units (UBS).

Methods: This is a descriptive study with a sample of 76 elderly people registered at the Basic Health Units (UBS) located in Aracaju city. The study participants underwent a comprehensive anamnesis to assess their socioeconomic and health profile, in addition to providing the essential data to calculate the Framingham Global Risk Score (ERG).

Results: It was observed that the participants' mean blood glucose levels were 102 mg/dL, above the normality threshold proposed by the SBD, and they also had an average LDL level of around 132 mg/dL, indicating deviation from the therapeutic targets of the DBD.

Conclusion: The proposal considering this topic is to show the necessity of implementing public policies related to promoting the cardiovascular health of the elderly.
