Ankle sprains remain one of the most common injuries in sports, conceptualized as acute injuries resulting from partial or total rupture of ligaments caused by stress on the joint, often resulting in prolonged absences of athletes. To analyse the intervention of the physiotherapist in a conservative approach with the use of functional elastic bandage in the treatment of ankle sprains. This is an integrative literature review, with the application of analytical and qualitative research methods, with articles published between the years 2017-2022. The analysed articles demonstrate that the use of the functional bandage promotes the support and protection of the soft tissues of the ankle joint and inhibits specific movements without restricting its physiological function, having as main objective to provide mechanical protection to the tissue without impairing the joint activities. joint function. Therefore, the studies contribute to the understanding that its physiotherapeutic use is beneficial for the patient. Based on the articles analysed in this study, the functional bandage is an important tool in the rehabilitation of patients with ankle sprains, so physiotherapy plays a fundamental role in obtaining highly effective results in the treatment of sprains and is very effective for clubs and players quickly return to sports training at their appropriate physical capacity.
