Abstract

The demanding challenge of socio-environmental preservation and sustainability makes school an important institution in this process. One of the factors that portrays this process are the green areas of school buildings. The purpose of this study was to characterize and analyze these areas in public schools in the municipality of Imperatriz considering the proposals of the "Zero Landmark of the School". The methodological design is an observational research that allowed us to observe: the number of students and teacher per room; Total areas, built-up areas and green or free areas; Characterization of the green area; And thermal comfort. We observed that the space identified by the research reflects the reduction of educational actions for the environment in schools. Thus we consider pertinent the discussion about being the science of nature represented with a curricular component, provisionally, for an evaluation, and then discuss a proposal that is aligned with our needs and culture.
