Abstract

The basin of the Upper Paraguay, and the Paraguay River as its main contributor, may be suffering damage from the activities developed throughout its river corridor. The study aimed to verify the use and occupation in the river Paraguay River corridor between the river mouth Jauru and Saint Antonio of Legends farm. Some procedures were: bibliographical research in various sources, mapping use in two different years: 1984 and 2015 and visits to the field for observation of activities, both in the river channel as the banks. Historical records show that the occupation started by the Indians along the river corridor of the Paraguay River. The Paraguay River had a strong influence in the process of occupation of the region with several boat traffic in different historical contexts. The occupation process in the study of passage happened on the left bank of the Paraguay River, highlighting the historic farms: farm Hangover, farm Barranco Red and St. Anthony of Legends farm. Navigation in Paraguay River occurs in various types of rowboats boats to motor boats with power ratings from 3 to 350 HPs, totaling 8,824 vessels, with various uses (transport, tourism, sport recreation, fishing). The banks of the river along the studied stretch is occupied by several farms, hotels, ranches, fishing and tableaux. It was also the existence of several roads and trails for easy access.
