With the increase in the use of pesticides, concern about the deleterious effects of these substances on the environment and human health has increased. Communities that live close to monocultures tend to feel these effects most directly. In this context, the study of native plants, located in vegetation adjacent to monocultures, is relevant as an auxiliary tool in the biomonitoring of the presence of pesticides in these areas. The objective was to identify the effects of pesticides on Cenostigma macrophyllum Tul. plants (Fabaceae), present in the border region between indigenous lands and monocultures in order to verify whether this species would be applicable for biomonitoring of the presence of pesticides. Therefore, the morphoanatomy of plants present in the field was compared with plants exposed to herbicide, under controlled laboratory conditions. There were morphoanatomical changes in the leaves of plants collected in the field, similar to those observed in studies under controlled conditions, which may indicate the use of C. macrophyllum for biomonitoring of the presence of pesticides, as well as indicating the use of morphoanatomical analyzes of plants as an alternative tool in pesticide biomonitoring.
