Population growth has resulted in high demand and production of durable and non-durable materials. However, these products generate a significant amount of waste, which in turn, is not always disposed of properly, generating an accumulation in the environment, affecting the entire ecosystem, especially water bodies. Studies on the presence of plastic microparticles in groundwater are still incipient, requiring further research in this compartment. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the presence of microplastics in groundwater in the city of Cuiabá-MT. To this end, a survey was carried out on the number of wells in the municipality and a random collection of water samples from 11 wells was carried out to quantify and quality the presence of microplastics. The results revealed that 934 wells are registered in the municipality, of which 65 are in the rural area and 869 are located in the urban area. Of the wells in the urban area, only 669 are in operation, with a total of 508 wells intended for domestic and industrial use. It was found in 81.81% of the analyzed samples, the presence of microplastics, with a predominance of fibers. In short, there is a need to monitor the water quality of deep wells in the city of Cuiabá-MT, since microplastics can be an indicator of environmental pollution.
