Vinasse is a by-product of ethanol production that, if disposed of incorrectly, can cause serious environmental damage related to low pH, temperature, high BOD and various substances, which, if in large quantities, can be toxic to various organisms present in water and soil. This fact is worrying, since the average production of vinasse in Brazil in 2019 was around 303.1 billion tons of the by-product. In order to propose an alternative for the disposal of this residue, the present study aimed to analyze the use of Vinhaça as a possible sustainable agro-industrial residue, which meets the three requirements of the sustainability tripod. The work was carried out through a bibliographic review in the bases of Web of Science and Google academic. As a result, it was found that vinasse has a high polluting potential and that it can be avoided if it is reused in fertigation practices and biogas production. Therefore, this practice can add economic value through the sale of products that can be generated, environmental value by not polluting soil and water resources and social value through improving the quality of life of the citizen.
