One of the great challenges in recent years for the productive sectors is to develop new materials, such as composites, to meet the growing world demand and reduce different types of impacts, especially environmental ones. Several researches have been carried out on the use of vegetable fibers as reinforcement in polymeric matrix composites, due to the possibility of replacing synthetic fibers and their great potential for technological application, as well as on the water absorption of these materials, as they harm the mechanical properties thereof. In this sense, this work aims to study, analytically, the behavior of water absorption in polyester matrix composites reinforced with vegetable fiber from the pineapple leaf, with fiber contents of 15 and 20%. A transient three-dimensional mathematical modeling was used to predict the mass transfer during water absorption of these parallelepiped-shaped composites. Results of the dimensionless mean moisture content are shown, compared with the experimental data and analyzed, obtaining a viable fit. It was observed that, in general, the increase in fiber contents has an influence on the increase of water absorption of the composites, and also that the moisture flow is higher at the composite vertices.
