The Tracuateua Marine Extractive Reserve is a federal protected area that has a single traditional community within its area, the Quatipuru-Mirim community. In this sense, this study aimed to analyze how the Quatipuru-Mirim community perceives the existence of the Tracuateua Marine Extractive Reserve (Resex-Mar de Tracuateua) and what public policies have been implemented in the community. This protected area is located in northeastern Pará, in the municipality of Tracuateua, about 40 minutes from the municipal headquarters. The research was qualitative nature with interviews with 15 residents, addressing issues related to knowledge of the protected area, it’s management, importance and impact on community life. In addition, an overview of public social policies and public policies for protected areas was carried out, which are implemented in Extractive Reserves. Residents recognize that they are within a protected area, however, have little participation in management processes, often relating the existence of the area only to housing construction by the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA). Regarding public policies, INCRA's Housing Program is the most present in the community, while social policies focused on health and infrastructure are precarious, affecting the quality of life of Quatipuru-Mirim community residents. Given this reality, it is necessary to take actions that bring improvements to the community, as well as promote the feeling of governance for the incorporation of the feeling of belonging to a protected area, considering that this feeling will enable the effective protection of this space and the way of life of this Community.
