The quality of the finished work is directly associated with the quality of the materials employed in it. The present study aimed to analyze the red ceramic blocks produced in the region of Porto Nacional (TO). The parameters adopted were in accordance with the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), as set forth in NBR 15270: 2005. According to the data obtained, it is possible to observe that most of the interviewed suppliers stated that they did not know ABNT NBR 15270: 2005 (only 1 of the 4 analyzed says they know it, which is 25%). This is a worrying fact, because the lack of knowledge suggests that the blocks produced will hardly have satisfactory qualities. To manufacture the items, the raw material was extracted from all the companies examined in Monte do Carmo (TO). The verification of the blocks was performed in the laboratory. It was observed that the results of geometric, physical and mechanical tests show that the suppliers do not have products according to ABNT NBR 15270: 2005. In the compressive strength test, none of the analyzed blocks presented resistance greater than or equal to 1,5MPa. In addition, several cracks and deformability were detected in the blocks of all ceramics that impair the use and performance of parts. More effort is needed for companies to tailor their respective modes of manufacturing.
