According to WHO studies (2019), every 15 minutes a person dies in traffic accidents, this fact generates great costs for the country, much of it due to medical treatment in cases where there are victims, some primary factors must be considered as causes of these accidents. , such as: the human factor that only involves the physical and psychological state of the person involved, the vehicular factor that is associated with the characteristics in which the vehicle is, whether or not maintenance is up to date and the factor that involves the environment/road, which is the quality of the road, aiming at its state of conservation, as well as the signs. This research aims to verify the feasibility of associating the causes of accidents on federal highways in the country with the state of conservation of these highways. To this end, a survey of data on accidents occurred on federal highways was carried out through reports made available by the Federal Highway Police - PRF, and on highways that underwent maintenance and thus associated with the causes of accidents. After the conclusion of this research, it was found that in most of the highways the number of accidents increased a lot after the intervention, reducing in percentage the accidents with causes related to the quality of the highway and increasing those caused by the recklessness of the driver.
