Abstract

Water is a source of life, responsible for the development of the planet and everyone who inhabits it, including humans, animals and plants. Considering its importance, water refers to a right for everyone, including its access, and for it to be beneficial, it must be potable, pointing to the supply of treated water, responsible for the prevention, protection and promotion of health, where for this the water must comply with minimum quality standards. In the state of Tocantins, there is a large disposition of water resources, where the capital Palmas – TO is mainly supplied by the Ribeirão Taquaruçu basin, but in recent years it has been presenting problems related to the quality and quantity of water. In this context, this research aims to carry out a survey of the water quality of the Taquaruçu Ribeiro River in recent years, through a literature review. The research is characterized as an integrative, descriptive literature review, with a quali-quantitative approach, referring to the water quality of Ribeirão Taquaruçu in Tocantins, carried out through Google Academic. The bibliographical research raised a total of 5 articles referring to the water quality of the Ribeirão Taquaruçu, pointing out that mainly in the rainy season, the water quality is compromised, and this happens due to the occupation in the basin area, causing deforestation of riparian forests, which further compromise water availability. Although several water quality parameters have changed, there is still no complete commitment, where a study showed that the Water Quality Index classifies it as an average of class 2. Thus, it still has quality aimed at supply and tourism. However, it is of fundamental importance that the current authorities and the population take a critical look at this basin, seeking alternatives to preserve it in general, not just in terms of water quality.
