Changes in environments, resulting from exacerbated population growth, cause several changes, affecting urban development and land cover. With this, the present study aims to analyze the environmental changes in the municipality of Sousa-PB in the period from 1985 to 2020, using remote sensing and application of statistical tests of trend and homogeneity to verify environmental changes. Maps of land cover from the city were generated, using the Qgis software, with data provided by MapBiomas 6.0. In addition, the statistical tests of Mann-Kendall, Sens Slope and of Pettitt were used for the treatment the data, as the elaboration of the graphs to verify the breaking points and changes of behavior of the series of the variables: Savanna Formation, Agriculture and Pasture, Pasture and Urbanized Area. It was noticed that over time there was a marked reduction in the area occupied by savanna formation while the areas of pasture and urbanized area increased. The analysis of statistical trends showed probabilities to the growth and reduction for the different forms of occupation, evidencing the importance of tools and statistical analyzes in the assessment of the situation of land cover.
