The use of triangulation as a methodological alternative for carrying out qualitative research is indicated as a means of increasing the validity and quality of results, however, its conception and practice are not fully understood by its users. Therefore, the article aims to discuss the use of triangulation as a research strategy present in articles published in Brazilian journals focused on the topic of tourism, so that the sample cut was carried out based on journals belonging to strata A1, A2, and B1 in the Qualis Capes classification (2013-2016) during the period between 2010 and 2020. The qualitative study performs the content analysis of the corpus from the following categories: data triangulation, researchers triangulation, method triangulation, theory triangulation and mixed methods. The results point to the discreet use of triangulation as a research strategy, with a predominance of the use of triangulation of methods and a lack of studies that adopt the triangulation of theories. The expansion of the application of triangulation has the potential to contribute to increasing scientific rigor and quality in research dealing with the topic of tourism and its interfaces with other areas of knowledge.
