The present study aims to analyze the contribution of relationship competence in the articulation of the production chain of clothing from the Pernambuco countryside, through: description of the main characteristics of the managers who articulate the chain; analyze relational skills; and understand how relationship competence contributes to the performance of partnerships. The conceptual study of relationship competence allows us to understand partnerships based on trust, interpersonal satisfaction, commitments and joint problem solving. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers from the Surubim clothing industry and the data were observed using the content analysis technique. The economic and financial crisis of the last few years has spared the managers who have the most developed relational competence, since it enables access to new business actors, relevant information from the chain, which minimizes the negative impacts of this situation.
