Abstract

Microneedling is an innovative technique, created in Germany, and is considered a treatment option for various aesthetic skin disorders, such as stretch marks, acne scars and facial rejuvenation. The application occurs through the roller formed by thin needles that can be made of surgical stainless steel or titanium alloy. The device stimulates the production of collagen and elastin naturally. Microneedling has contraindications that need to be respected. There are many questions about the indication of the technique for diabetic patients, and it should be meticulously analyzed, as the presence of the disease poses risks to the patient's health. The present study aimed to carry out a theoretical review on the contraindications of microneedling, especially in diabetic patients, seeking to reduce adverse events, complications and improve the quality of life of patients. It started from the problem what are the dermatological complications of patients with diabetes mellitus? To give greater support to this study, the method of literary review was combined with reflective analysis. 20 articles that fit the theme of the study were included. Thus, it was found that microneedling is a safe treatment that can be used for several indications, but it has contraindications that must be observed by professionals, as the technique causes skin lesions to force a cellular response in the dermis, but in the case of the patient the procedure may not be beneficial considering the dermatological complications with a high possibility of developing neuropathy and angiopathy.
